Serengeti Experience
Bird Watching
A paradise for birders, the Serengeti is home to over 500 species, ranging from the massive Ostrich to the tiny, colorful Sunbird.
With its diverse habitats — including grasslands, swamps, and riverine forests — the Serengeti is one of Africa's premier birding destinations. Whether you are a casual observer or a serious "twitcher," the sheer variety of avian life is staggering.
Endemics and Specialties
The park is home to several endemic species, including the Grey-breasted Spurfowl and the Fischer's Lovebird. You can expect to see everything from the iconic Secretary Bird and Kori Bustard to massive Martial Eagles and hundreds of Marabou Storks during the migration.
The Migratory Season
While birding is excellent year-round, the arrival of migratory birds from Europe and North Africa between November and April brings the species count to its peak. This is also the time when many resident birds are in their vibrant breeding plumage.
