Ndabaka Gate: The Entrance to the Western Corridor

Ndabaka Gate is the primary entry point for the Western Corridor of the Serengeti. Situated on the far western boundary of the park, it is the closest gate to the shores of Lake Victoria and the city of Mwanza. It serves as the gateway to some of the Serengeti's most unique habitats, including the vast Ndabaka Plains and the riverine forests of the Grumeti River.

The area around Ndabaka is famously lush and green, thanks to the proximity of the lake and the fertile black cotton soil. It is a region renowned for its high density of herbivores, particularly topi, hartebeest, and the massive herds of wildebeest that settle here during the months of May, June, and July.

Proximity to Lake Victoria

Many travelers choose Ndabaka Gate to combine their safari with a visit to Lake Victoria, Africa's largest lake. The drive from the gate to the lake is short, allowing for excursions to local fishing villages or the nearby Speke Gulf. Within the park, the road from Ndabaka leads directly into the heart of the Western Corridor, offering immediate wildlife sightings upon entry.

Wildlife of the Ndabaka Region

The floodplains near Ndabaka are home to some of the Serengeti's most diverse birdlife. In the nearby pools and river channels, you can find pods of hippos and enormous Nile crocodiles. The region's resident lions and leopards are frequently spotted patrolling the tree lines of the riverine forests, making Ndabaka an excellent starting point for any western safari.
