Naabi Hill Gate: The Gateway to Greatness

Naabi Hill Gate is the primary entry point for travelers arriving from the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Located in the Southern Serengeti, it serves as the official administrative hub where park fees are paid and permits are cleared. Beyond its administrative role, Naabi Hill is a significant landmark in its own right, marking the transition from the volcanic highlands to the 'endless plains'.

The gate is situated atop a series of small, rocky kopjes. Visitors are encouraged to take a short walk up the hill, which provides a breathtaking 360-degree panorama of the short-grass plains. During the calving season (December to March), these plains are covered with hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebras, creating one of the most spectacular sights in nature.

Administrative Hub and Amenities

As the busiest gate in the park, Naabi Hill offers excellent facilities for travelers. It features a TANAPA information center, clean restrooms, a small coffee shop, and a souvenir kiosk. It is the perfect place to stretch your legs, enjoy a picnic lunch, and watch the resident colorful Agama lizards and superb starlings that frequent the rocky outcrops.

The Naabi Hill Experience

While most people view Naabi Hill Gate as a mere formality, it is the true beginning of the Serengeti adventure. The sense of scale you feel when looking out from the viewpoint is incomparable. To the north lies the road to Seronera, to the west are the Moru Kopjes, and all around is the vast protected wilderness of the Serengeti ecosystem.
