Lamai Gate: The Frontier of the North

Lamai Gate is one of the most remote and strategically positioned gates in Serengeti National Park. Located in the far northern 'Lamai Wedge' — the triangular piece of land between the Mara River and the Kenyan border — this gate provides access to some of the most spectacular and exclusive game viewing areas in the entire ecosystem.

The Lamai region is synonymous with the dramatic Mara River crossings of the Great Migration. From July to October, this area becomes the stage for one of nature's most incredible spectacles, as hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebras brave crocodile-infested waters to reach the lush grazing lands of the Maasai Mara.

The Lamai Wedge

Because of its isolation, the area around Lamai Gate remains pristine and less crowded than the Central Serengeti. It is characterized by rolling hills, open savannahs, and large granite kopjes. Resident wildlife is abundant year-round, including large prides of lions, leopards that frequent the riverine forests, and massive herds of buffalo.
