Klein's Gate: The North-Eastern Frontier

Klein's Gate is located in the remote northeastern corner of Serengeti National Park. It serves as an important entry and exit point for travelers moving between the park and the Loliondo Game Controlled Area, or those heading towards the Kenyan border and the Maasai Mara ecosystem. This gate offers access to a region characterized by dramatic hills, deep valleys, and rolling woodlands.

Unlike the flat plains of the south, the landscape around Klein's Gate is rugged and diverse. It is an area known for its resident wildlife, including large prides of lions and herds of buffalo that stay in the area year-round. The region also hosts the Great Migration during its northern trek (July-August) and its return south (October-November).

Access to Private Concessions

Klein's Gate is the primary access point for several high-end luxury lodges located on the park's border. The area allows for unique activities not found in the park's central regions, such as night game drives and guided Walking Safaris in the adjacent private concessions. The gate itself provides administrative services for TANAPA and serves as a vital security post for the park's northeastern boundary.

Visiting Klein's Area

Travelers using Klein's Gate often experience a much quieter side of the Serengeti. The distance from the main tourist hubs means fewer vehicles and a more intimate wildlife experience.
